Red Dwarf poster design, 1996 // The science-fiction TV sit-com created by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, ran for eight series after it was first broadcast in 1988. A hugely popular show, it gained a cult following in the UK, attracting over eight million viewers.

Red Dwarf; sketches for revamped series, 1998 // Series 1-3 received a makeover in 1998 to update the special visual effects. Mark was asked by the production company to provide illustrations that were to appear in the episode Waiting For God. These were shown on screen, while Cat’s history was being described to the last human on board – low ranking technician Dave Lister.

The Seven Ages of Cat, 1998 // The evolution from a kitten with a love for dressing up, to fully formed ‘Cat’. He is the last specimen on board of Felis Sapiens, a race of humanoid felines that evolved in the ship’s hold from Lister’s cat, Frankenstein, and her kittens during the 3 million years that Lister was asleep. Cat was a mix of Little Richard’s look, James Brown’s moves and Richard Pryor’s facial expressions!

Red Dwarf Re-Mastered VHS spines, 1998 // The sleeve illustrations cover the front, back and spines as ‘wraparounds’. When the videos were stacked together they made a spinal ‘set’ creating a whole new image. Any visual element in a cover’s spine had to move along by one box width on to the next cover, to link with the adjacent spine.
